Drug Abuse and Addiction

Drug Addiction

Drug Addiction

Drug addiction has become more and more common in our society today than any other addiction. The root of addiction could be from a number of things such as emotional problems, peer pressure, and family dysfunction that play a huge role in causing addiction. More and more people today are having drug abuse problems because of a certain downfall or depression in their lives. Depression can come from a number of areas that include: family problems, friends, health, and sexual relationships. All of these factors in life can make a person fall into the hands of drug abuse. Even if just one area in  life’s factors are lacking, such as health, one may resort to drugs to find a gateway to happiness. Drugs are definitely not the way to go because they eventually only make matters worse.

The root of this problem can be clear and visible. If you notice any signs of drug abuse from anyone that you know, you should call for help immediately before the problem develops into a stronger disorder. If you notice your friend is not acting well and is becoming more and more depressed, you should immediately ask if the person is doing alright and if there is anything you can help them with. You should comfort the person because harsh words or getting angry at the person can lead to more serious problems such as suicide. The harsh reality of today is that too many people do not get help soon enough. There are people out there that have  chronic depression and as the person goes on without any help, it develops stronger and stronger in other areas of the person’s life. It is definitely crucial to help the person out by asking them about their addiction and pain. You certainly do not want to sound too intimidating or cruel to the person that you are trying to help because a person on drugs is easily offended and extremely sensitive. Although depression isn’t the only root of the problem of addiction, there are plenty of other problems that cause one to resort to drug abuse.

Daily Dose of Drug Addiction

People who have no life goals or inspiration in their lives tend to resort to a daily dose of drug addiction because it is the only thing that they find pleasure out of. This happens to many successful people, too because they have underlying issues. If you have money to buy and do anything in the world, where else can you find pleasure? Teen addiction can also begin from this premise. High school students that don’t have the right mindset to do well in school and see no future in their path often resort to drugs if they don’t find inspiration in their life. High school students are the easiest age group out of all other age groups because between the ages of sixteen and nineteen, teenagers have a fresh mind that is easily influenced and they can fall into trends very easily. In high school, hanging out with the wrong group or group of friends can easily influence teenagers to do things that they don’t want to. Peer pressure, as it is called, is one of the biggest problems that teenagers in high school have.

Drug abuse statistics indicate that kids fall into addiction because the first time they ever tried the drug was because of peer pressure. Although not all kids give in to peer pressure, the percent of kids that try their first drug due to peer pressure often become full-time drug abusers later in life. Once your kid shows strong signs of drug addiction, the best thing to do is to not be angry at the child.  Teenagers find more influence in their friends than parents because they haven’t gone through life enough to understand the love of their parents. So, the best way to deal with a teen’s addiction is to calmly bring up the topic and try to find out the real problem behind the addiction.

Finding the root of the problem could be addiction genetics or a strong impact on society that is causing the problem, but it is the parent’s job to find what is causing the teen’s addiction. One of the best ways to prevent your child from tryingdrugs is to teach your child at a young age to be confident.  Of course, it isn’t possible to make all the decisions in your child’s life; you can make one important decision in their life and that is teaching them to be strong and independent as they grow up. Kids with strong determination and a clear path to a life goal show less signs of having addiction and pain. Kids with a distinct goal in life will do whatever it takes to get to that goal, and they seem to have a strong understanding addiction.

Drug Abuse Statistics

Drug abuse statistics show that people with a strong mindset and motivation to accomplish a goal in life tend to not have signs of drug abuse. How do these people prevent drugs from coming into their lives? Easy. Some people get a sense of pleasure and joy from doing things they like. People that do things they like such as certain hobbies or activities get the same high as drug abusers get when they get their hands on their favorite drug. One of the reasons why successful people are where they are today (athletes, movie stars, successful entrepreneurs, and business men and women) is because they had the motivation and determination to get to where they are without any distractions. The people that are higher up have the tendency to not give in to drugs because drugs only slow you down. Why would an Olympic runner do drugs if it slows him down? The mindset of a determined person is wired differently from a person that has chronic pain management and resorts to drugs.

Drug Overdose Statistics

Drug overdose is one of the biggest killers of young people today. There are over 25,000 people in the United States that die every year as a result of drug overdose. Although sometimes this is on purpose, the vast majority of people that die from drug overdose are not trying to end their life. It is important to be able to educate people on the potential dangers of drug overdose every time they use a drug. Here are several other facts about drug overdose and the best way to combat this issue.

Demographics

Like many things in life, statistics do not tell the full story when it comes to drugs. Drug overdose effects people from all walks of life. It is interesting that certain drugs affect different types of people. For example, meth is a serious problem in the poor southern states. However, other types of drugs are used in different areas of the country. Many people think that their friends and family are immune from drugs because of the area that they live in. However, the statistics tell us that drug use is rampant in all areas of the country and in all walks of life.

Dangers of Drug Overdose

One of the biggest reasons that drug overdose is such a big issue is that it can kill instantly. Many young people think that they are experimenting with one type of drug, only to learn that the drug that they are using is lined with another. Many young people die every year when they think they are taking a light drug, but in fact it is lined with a harder drug. Not only do drugs cause many physical issues over time, but they can cause many mental issues as well. There are many verified studies that show the effects of long term drug overdose on the brain. Not only do people that use drugs have fewer brain cells, but they also perform worse on tests. It is important for younger people to understand the dangers of long term drug use.

Many times drug use becomes so prevalent in a person’s life that they must be forced to go to some sort of rehab center. There are many people that have successfully gone through rehab and been freed of their drug addiction. However, there are many forms of therapy that must be considered. People that have a strong network of support have the best chance to have success in their rehab. Overall, drug use is a terrible epidemic and people must do everything they can in order to stop it. Various drug rehab options are available to people that are struggling with this issue.

Ways to Help

There are many ways that you can help a person suffering from addiction. Drug addiction can be fought and controlled if the person gets help from a chronic pain management facility or even an addiction intervention. Addiction intervention allows the person to see all the people that they have hurt in their life since their addiction has spawned. Intervention is a great way for a person to realize that their drug addiction has changed every aspect of their life and they are only going down one path, and that is darkness. Intervention is a great tool to use with a friend or family member that shows signs of drug use. The concept of intervention is to bring all of the person’s closest friends or family members that have been affected by the victim’s drug use together. Along with the interventionist, the person is centered by his or her friends and family. The person is given a ride on a roller coaster full of emotions and feelings that may break down into the person’s addiction. Another form of help that you can provide to a person with an addiction is taking them to a rehabilitation center where they can get housing until they are well enough to maintain their abstinence on their own.

Rehabilitation is one of the best ways to eliminate an addiction from a person’s life. Rehabilitation centers house the patient for a certain amount of time and provide them with therapy and personal aid until the patient is eventually recovered from all their problems that are causing their drug use, which is extremely good because finding the root of the problem is one of the first things that you should take care of if you are helping a drug abuser. Helping a drug abuser certainly takes time and one cannot be treated over the course of a week. Refraining from the drug is like refraining a person from eating food. Addiction causes the person to center the drug in one’s life as if it is the only fuel in the person’s life.

It can take months to years for a person to finally quit. Sometimes people can even quit sooner, the time varies from person to person. If the person has a strong sense of self-control and urgency, he or she is more willing to quit cold turkey or in less than a month. However, people with uncontrollable urges in drug addiction that could have spawned during their early years are harder to treat. Treating a person that has been using drugs for more than 5 years can be extremely difficult because the person has a history of daily abuse. Addiction recovery for a person like this can take up to months or years, depending on the impact of their intervention or rehabilitation.

Finding the root of the problem that could have started since childhood is extremely important for any person that would like to help his or her friend. If the person has chronic depression, it would be smart to find the problem that is causing the depression. Treating a person that has a drug abuse problem but also a depression problem for example, should be dealt with first by dealing with the person’s depression. Because chances are, the depression is causing the drug use. When finding the root of the problem you should look in several areas of a person’s life. The first area that you should concentrate on is the person’s relationships with his or her friends and family.  If the person is distanced from his or her friends and family, it is common for the person to go into depression. Another area that you should definitely look into is the person’s daily lifestyle. Things such as a person’s eating habits or the way he or she does their daily activities such as sleeping and exercise can show signs of drug abuse and addiction. It isn’t common for people who are fit to be using drugs.

Many people who resort to drugs are the type of people who have a very unhealthy lifestyle that leads them to go into the life of drugs. Drugs can only make things worse, but the sad thing is, people resort to drugs to get better, but it doesn’t help them at all and can only lead to more devastating issues like drug addiction.
